Cancelled August 2009 Scheduled Performances

It is with much regret that we announce Lila must cancel her August 2009 scheduled performances.  She suffered an appendicitis on August 22nd and underwent emergency surgery in the early morning of the 23rd.  Lila is resting and doing well now and a full recovery is expected.

Lila was looking forward to performing at such wonderful venues and festivals, and is disappointed that she’s not able to be there.

Dear Friends y Compañeros,

Me encuentro un poco hinchada y somnolienta pero fuerte como un aguila despues de que me echaron cuchillo en esta mañana de agosto. A causa de esta operación tuvimos que cancelar una gira importante para nosotros aquí en los Estados Unidos. Ya salí con bien gracias a Dios de esta apendicitis.

I am a little swollen and sleepy but strong and thankful for a successful operation of appendicitis here in New York. Unfortunately for this reason we needed to cancel our concerts this week in the U.S., but soon enough we'll be out there doin' our thing.

Anaheim Date Rescheduled for October 25th!

We are happy  to announce that Lila will perform at The Grove in Anaheim on October 25th. Tickets for the originally scheduled Aug 26th date will be honored for October 25th. So hang on to your tickets and use them for entry that evening!  If you are not able to attend the show in October, you may ask for a refund and contact the Grove box office or the ticketing agency where you purchased your ticket.

For those of you who require refunds for any of the other dates that have been canceled, please contact the venue or ticketing agency for instructions.

Cantará Lila Downs en el evento "Moving Stars and Earth for Water"

(The Poetic Social Mission)

Como actividad previa a su único concierto en la Ciudad de México (octubre 10, Salón José Cuervo), Lila Downs participará en Poetic Social Mission, evento especial de transmisión global que se llevará  a cabo el 9 de octubre de 2009. La meta de este evento es crear conciencia sobre los problemas de agua en el mundo actual. Entre los participantes están: Bono, Salma Hayek, Peter Gabriel, Joss Stone, Shakira, Bindi Irwin, Al Gore, Matthew McConaughey y muchos más. 

Con la iniciativa de Guy Laliberte, fundador del Cirque du Soleil y One Drop Foundation (Fundación Una Gota), Poetic Social Mission será presentado durante la estancia de 10 días de Guy abordo de la Estación Espacial Internacional.

El evento se llevará a cabo durante un período de dos horas, durante las cuales habrá presentaciones artísticas en 14 ciudades del mundo. El corazón del evento se centra alrededor de “One Poem” (“Un Poema”), escrito especialmente para la ocasión por Yann Martel, que será revelado en cada ciudad cuando los versos del poema sean leídos. 

Lila cantará la canción "La Línea" (CD La Línea/Border, 2001) EN VIVO en la Ciudad de México, en octubre 9 alrededor de las 7:40 p.m., hora local, comenzando con un verso del poema recitado por Salma Hayek. La actuación representa la parte de México en el programa, el cual se enfoca específicamente en la importancia del agua en la agricultura y la seguridad alimentaria. Este evento será transmitido a nivel global en línea en onedrop.org a través de una alianza con AOL y los momentos más relevantes serán transmitidos por canales de televisión locales asociados en grandes territorios alrededor del mundo.

Lila Downs will take part in "Moving Stars and Earth for Water" (The Poetic Social Mission), a very special global broadcast on October 9, 2009. The event will take place over a period of two hours, featuring artistic performances in 14 cities, 5 continents, and space.

An initiative of Cirque du Soleil and One Drop Foundation founder Guy Laliberte, the Poetic Social Mission will be presented on the occasion of Guy's 10-day stay aboard the International Space Station.  The heart of the show centers around "One Poem" written by Yann Martel, especially for the occasion, that is unveiled in each city as a verse of the poem is read. The goal of this event is to raise awareness surrounding the issues of fresh water in the world today.  Participants include: Bono, Salma Hayek, Peter Gabriel, Joss Stone, Shakira, Bindi Irwin, Al Gore, Matthew McConaughey, world renown scientists, Nobel Peace Prize winners,  and many more.

 Lila will perform one song LIVE in Mexico City on October 9th at approximately 7:40 pm, local time, beginning with a  poem verse delivered by Salma Hayek.  The performance represents the Mexico portion of the program, which focuses specifically on the importance

of water in agriculture and food security.

This event will be broadcast globally online at onedrop.org through a partnership with

AOL.   RDI, Le Réseau de l'information of Société Radio-Canada will act as exclusive host

broadcaster in Canada, and DIRECTV will broadcast in standard and high definition on The 101 Network in the United States, and via DIRECTV Latin America channels 999 and 1004. Other international broadcasters may join in to present part or all of the event.

LILA DOWNS DIA DE LOS MUERTOS PERFORMANCE  IN THE SMITHSONIAN LATINO VIRTUAL MUSEUM NOV 1ST & 2ND

Following the successful launch of the Latino Virtual Museum in Second Life this past March, the Smithsonian Latino Center is hosting its first in-world public program to showcase Latino cultural heritage through a virtual Dia de los Muertos celebration.  The  Dia de los Muertos Festival takes place in Second Life from October 30 to November 2, 2009.  As a special part of the  festival, on November 1 in the virtual museum’s amphitheatre, participants can watch Lila Downs in concert at the 10th Annual “Dia de los Muertos” memorial celebration on the grounds  of the historic Hollywood Forever cemetery in Los Angeles, which took place on October 24th.  The concert will be rebroadcast and followed by an exclusive interview with Lila on Monday, November 2 . 

To participate in the festival you must have an "avatar" in Second Life.  You can also join by going to: http://latino.si.edu/education/LVMDayoftheDeadFestival.htm.

The Dia de los Muertos Festival in the Smithsonian Latino Virtual Museum will begin with a cemetery procession in the Placita that takes participants through a virtual Spirits Path, lined with marigolds.  All-day activities include “building your own altar” and a learning altar demonstration for school groups.  Special programming will include an All Souls Film Festival and 3D Crystal Skull Dance Party. 

The Smithsonian Latino Center ensures Latino contributions to arts, sciences and the humanities are highlighted, understood and advanced through the development and support of public programs, scholarly research, museum collections and educational opportunities at the Smithsonian Institution and its affiliated organizations across the United States.
